These emperors ruled over China in the Ming Dynasty, using the Forbidden City as a fortress to protect themselves and a show of the power they had over the country of China. The Forbidden City was a marvel during the Ming Dynasty and still is today. As you can see, the Yongle Emperor first got the Forbidden City going and the Hongxi Emperor saw it finished.

The Qing Dynasty was a little bit longer than the Ming Dynasty, lasting about 300 years. The Qing Dynasty overthrew the Ming Dynasty because there was turmoil and revolt and Nurhaci saw his chance. The Kangxi Emperor put China back in order and was the high point of this dynasty. In the early 1900's the people of China were starting to modernize and did not want an emperor. The Qing Dynasty fell apart quickly with outside pressure from other countries, unrest in their own country, and rebellion from the citizens. The Wuchang Uprising caused a new government in 1911 and the reign of the dynasties ended there. The Forbidden City was then never used again for total government control.
